If your brand is communicating with your audiences online, each piece of a message can impact how it is obtained,  even something like an emoji.

Emojis can be helpful when trying to make your brand feel authentic, yet the wrong emoji, or even the right one used in the wrong matter, can entirely shift how a message is perceived.

When Emojis Add Meaning

Even though emojis can help your brand feel more human, the use of the wrong emoji can also alter the attitude of any message.

Take a simple customer-service response as an example:

“Your order is on its way to you 👍.”

To one customer, using this thumbs-up emoji might be friendly. It could also come off as short or even dismissive to another. The difference isn't just the emoji, it's your audience and the meaning behind it.

Context Matters

For your promotional social media posts, a playful emoji can work very well, yet the same tone might not work when responding to an annoyed customer.

Consistency is Key

Each emoji you use needs to feel like it's a part of your brand identity, not something that is added randomly to a message you send out.

The Takeaway:

Your goal should not be to use more or less emojis. It's to communicate better with your audience!

Before you send anything, remind yourself: Does the emoji fit my audience, my message, and brand?

Usually, one small emoji can bring out personality. Yet, sometimes it can entirely change the message.
