While constantly staying active on social media is crucial for small businesses, true engagement requires strategic foundtation instead of  having a regular posting schedule. Through my marketing experience, I learned that being consistent only matters if you're being strategic. I now prioritize creating content with a defined business purpose instead of simply checking off dates in a calendar.

More Than Just Views

As a Marketing Manager at American Welding Supply, I focus on creating valuable content that connects– whether that's showcasing new products, filming something educational, or launching campaigns that are promotional. One thing I have noticed is that not every post has to accomplish the same exact goal.

A product reel might introduce new potential customers to a welding machine, while an educational post can help establish credibility. Both of these contain value, yet their success should be measured in a different way.

Creating Content With Intention

Prior to creating content, I think each marketer should ask themselves three important questions:

  • Who am I trying to reach?

  • What do I want this audience to take away?

  • How will I measure success?

For instance, a post that was created to build awareness might focus on reach and engagement, while a promotional campaign should also take inquiries and conversions into consideration.

The Bigger Picture

For small businesses managing tight operational constraints, content cannot simply be a filler, it needs to function as a targeted  mechanism to grow your audience.

“Posting consistently keeps your brand visible. Posting strategically gives that visibility a purpose.”

The goal is not to just create more content. It's to create content that has a purpose and contributes to meaningful business results.
